I like to preceed the letters with the items that prompted them, but on this page I have not done so because I didn't save them. I think I wrote more letters pre-2006 but I didn't save them. In 2013 I played my Jesus card again, this time in Huntsville, Alabama, where sermon-on-the-mount Christians seem to be outnumbered, as in Hagerstown, by man-is-the-head ten-commandment people, who, as pointed out by Kurt Vonnegut, follow Moses, not Jesus.
The
county, though urban, is dominated by Republicans. Yet it is not hard
to find people who are Democratic, liberal -- and freethinking
people too -- to associate with. With a Republican legislature in place
during redistricting, gerrymandering minimized the influence of the
large black minority and of Democrats even further, giving the impression
in elections of a smaller number of Democratic residents than really
exist.
